Pear is a seasonal fruit, and there are many benefits to eating its fruit. Pears are also rich in fibre and iron. Apart from this, consuming its fruit increases blood in the body and reduces bad cholesterol in our body. For these reasons, people like to eat this fruit, and its demand always remains in the market. That’s why farmers can easily produce one to two quintals from one pear tree. In this way, about 600 quintals of pears can be produced by planting this fruit in a one-acre field.

Suitable Climate For Pear Farming

Pear cultivation is easily done in hot, humid subtropical plains to dry, temperate and high-altitude areas. The temperature ranging from 10 to 25 degrees is favourable for its high production of fruits. However, frost and fog in the winter cause a lot of damage to its flowers.

Grow Vegetables Along With Pear Farming

Profit can be earned by cultivating crops like urad, moong and rapeseed till the pear plantation does not bear fruit. Then, wheat, gram and vegetables can be sown in the rabi season. In the Rabi season, potatoes, peas, onions, tau, wheat, ginger and turmeric can be cultivated in the pear garden.

Pear Farming Suitable Soil

Medium-textured sandy loam and deep soil are considered best for pear cultivation. In addition, there should be a proper drainage system in the field. For pear cultivation, the pH value of the soil should be between 7 to 8.5.

Pear Farming Field Preparation

Loose soil is suitable for pear cultivation. For pear farming, plough the field deeply 2 to 3 times with the help of a Sonalika Tractor for efficiency. After that, apply water in the field and leave it open. After this, plough the field 2 to 3 times with the help of a rotavator to make the soil loose.

Planting Method And Irrigation

Different types of methods are used for pear cultivation. First, prepare the plants by grafting them in the nursery, and when the plants are 20 to 25 days old, transplant them in the field. In its cultivation, do it after preparing the field for sowing the seeds. Make sure to keep a distance of 8 x 4 metres between the plants. Level the field well and give a slight slope to drain the water. The tree needs 75 to 100 cm of rain in pear farming in a year. Therefore, regular irrigation is required regularly after transplanting. Ensure to give water at an interval of 5 to 7 days in summer and 15 days in winter.

Manure And Fertilizer Management In Pear Farming

In order to get good production of fruits in pear farming, a proper amount of manure is required in the field. Vermicompost or well-rotted cow dung manure should be used to get good production in pear farming. When its tree becomes 3 years old, mix 10 kg of cow dung, 100 to 300 grams of urea, 200 to 300 grams of single phosphate and 200 to 450 grams of muriate of potash in the soil at the rate of one tree and then rinse. When the tree is 4 to 6 years old, apply 25 to 35 kg of cow dung, 400 to 600 grams of urea, 800 to 1200 grams of Super Single Phosphate (SSP), 600 to 900 grams of Muriate of Potash at the rate of one tree.

While cultivating it, for the prevention of weeds in the field, weeding should be done from time to time as required with the help of an Ace Tractor for efficiency.

Pruning Of Pear Tree

The pear plant is pruned to get stronger branches, higher yields and better-quality fruits. For this, disease-affected, destroyed, broken, and weak branches are cut and separated from the tree.

Harvesting Process In Pear Farming

Pear fruits are harvested from the first week of June to September. The green pears are harvested after the fruits are fully ripe. They are transported to distant places and the nearest markets. The time of harvesting of pear fruit is decided on the basis of variety. About 145 days are required for the ripening of its fruits, whereas for the normal soft variety, the fruits ripen in 135 to 140 days and are ready for harvesting.

Pear Fruit Post Harvesting

After harvesting its fruits, sort them, and then they can be stored in boxes and taken to the market. Moreover, treat the fruits with 1000 ppm ethephon for 4 to 5 minutes so that even the raw fruits ripen. Keep in 100 ppm ethylene gas for 24 hours and then store in a box at 20°C. Fruits can be kept for 60 to 65 days in a store room with 0-1 degree centigrade temperature and 90-95% humidity.

Pear Farming Yield And Benefits

On average, pear yields between 4 and 5 quintals of fruit per tree, and many cultivars produce 6 to 7 quintals. This way, around 600 quintals of pears can be made by planting them in one acre of orchard. The price of pear in the market ranges from Rs. 60 to 100 per kg, from which farmers can easily earn a profitable income.
