Those with cancer face daily struggles, including taking care of everyday needs as simple as cleaning their home.

“At Wheatley Creek Services, we believe a clean and comfortable home brings peace — especially for those facing difficult times,” stated Kasy Allen, COO of the Granby home maintenance company.

Wheatley Creek has partnered with the nonprofit Cleaning for a Reason to provide free cleaning services to local residents fighting cancer. The first clean on April 5 was a special one for housekeeper Maria Garcia — she used to babysit for the family.

“She was told about the diagnosis last year but didn’t recognize the name in our system, so it wasn’t until we arrived that everything clicked,” Allen wrote to Sky-Hi News.

As Garcia, Allen and the team arrived, the husband of the wife with cancer went to greet them. Garcia “lit up and gave the husband a big hug,” Allen recounted.

Together the team began the clean for the grateful family. Garcia shared with Allen how she’d formerly taken care of the couple’s young son. She even remembered when the mother had first received her cancer diagnosis.

“She was beaming with joy to give back to this family in such a meaningful way, especially by offering the clean free of charge,” Allen wrote.

A community partnership to ease the burden of cancer

Wheatley Creek decided to join Cleaning for a Reason “because no one should have to worry about a clean home while fighting cancer.”

Allen added that “cancer treatment can be both physically and emotionally exhausting. We’re here to support our neighbors during this difficult time.”

Wheatley Creek is a local company that offers home services, including repairs, junk removal, painting and cleaning. Cleaning for a Reason partners with companies like Wheatley Creek across the nation and Canada.

The nonprofit formed in Texas when a residential cleaning company learned one of its clients could no longer afford cleaning fees due to the cost of cancer treatment. Founder Debbie Sardone decided to offer this service for free. Cleaning for a Reason was born, and since 2006, it has helped more than 60,000 cancer patients.

“Giving back is at the heart of our mission, and our partnership with Cleaning for a Reason allows us to support those in our community who need it most. We are honored to help ease the stress of home upkeep for cancer patients and bring a little light and relief to those in need.”

Wheatley Creek has also shared about this new service with the Grand County group Taking Steps for Cancer, which financially supports residents with the disease. Taking Steps volunteers now inform their clients about free cleaning opportunities.

“We truly believe this is a great opportunity — not just to support individuals undergoing cancer treatment with free home cleanings — but also to shine a light on the incredible work Taking Steps for Cancer is doing right here in our community,” Allen explained.
