The Cumberland Valley Business Alliance hosted the Economic Development Breakfast sponsored by Meritus Health at Green Grove Gardens to honor several local businesses for their recent property renovations.
“On behalf of the CVBA, we extend our sincere congratulations to these business and community leaders for their outstanding property improvements,” said Chris Grimm, chair of the CVBA. “Their efforts are a testament to the commitment and pride that we all share in making our region a beter place to live, work and play.”
iWAT LLC received the first award in the up to $150,000 property improvement category. The business was recognized for its recent façade makeover at 780 S. Second St. in Chambersburg.
The Dapper House and Hidden Key Brewing Co. received the next award in the $150,000 to $500,000 category. The main phases of the project included painting, plumbing, electrical work and renovating the restaurant. A new metal and glass building was constructed to be the Brew House along with adding a beer garden.
Greencastle Veterinary Hospital was named the winner in the $500,000 to $1M category for its major expansion project. The expansion doubled the clinic’s area, which made space for more exams, operating rooms, storage areas and additional parking.
First Start Partnerships for Children & Families was named the winner in the $1M to $5M category. Previously a bowling alley, First Start transformed the space into six preschool classrooms. The building also holds an Arts-Integrated Preschool classroom, where children enjoy creating art with a Cumberland Valley School of Music artist. Also included is a commercial kitchen space, staff lounge, staff development space, indoor gym and plenty of fenced-in outdoor space on the three-acre lot.
In the $5M to $10M category, WellSpan Health received recognition for its new health center at Penn National. The 15,000 square-foot building is home to a family medicine practice, laboratory and rehab that serves the Fayeteville community and patients in Franklin County.
The Capitol Theatre Center received the Historic Preservation Award for its recent improvements to preserve their historic building and reduce their carbon footprint. The lighting in the theater and on the stage have been upgraded to LED that will reduce energy costs and create a safer environment for the performers. They also did masonry work and installed a new roof.
The final award, Environmental Sustainability, was given to Lady Moon Farms. Chambersburg is home to the Pennsylvania farm that’s been in production since 1996 and greatly contributes to food security on the entire East Coast. They are commited to staying certified organic and implementing farming practices that protect and conserve natural resources. An update regarding the SummerBridge at Falling Spring development was provided by Brian McNew, president of Brim Builders and Developers. This energy efficient, resort-style living community will be at 750 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg.
