Meet the Speaker: Anna Moore on how energy efficiency improvements can boost the value of your property

With less than a week to go until the NRLA’s 2024 Landlord Conference we talk to speaker Anna Moore, CEO of retrofit specialists Domna about how landlords can increase the value of their properties through energy efficiency improvements.

“It doesn’t have to be as hard as it’s made out to be,” says Anna Moore when asked about challenges landlords when planning a retrofit project.

“You can start incrementally and make more use out of grant funding than people realise.

“Upgrading your property can add 20-30% to its valuation, depending on what its EPC rating was and where the property is.”

Domna is an energy efficiency “one stop shop”, to help landlords improve Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings, comply with upcoming regulations, and add value, with Anna’s mission to make every home in the UK energy efficient.

Anna will be taking part in a panel discussion on digital and tech-based solutions to common landlord issues – which comes hot on the heels on the announcement of Domna’s new partnership with the NRLA.

“Landlords are very much aware that they have to comply with minimum energy efficiency standards,” says Anna. “Based on research that was done during during the Conservative administration almost 80% of landlords (polled by Shawbrook Bank) were gearing up to meet the EPC C rating that was proposed – with the new government pledging to introduce the minimum standard by 2030.

“What we do find is that people are confused about what they have to do and worried about how much it is going to cost, which is where we come in to help.”

Domna uses software and on-site surveys to produce a costing of what work needs to be done and, once the funding is secured, has a database of approved tradespeople who can carry out the work.

Done right, Domna says EPC upgrades can add more than 20% to property valuations, over 10% to rental income, and cut tenant energy consumption by up to 40%, lowering bills.
