Brisa Yaharia Renteria, 18, was arrested in the 3100 block of Market Street after it was determined she had allegedly stolen thousands of dollars from her coworkers since being hired in September 2024.
According to the report, over the past six months, five workers at the home improvement store noted they’d continuously seen fraudulent charges on their credit and debit cards, and had also had large amounts of cash taken from their wallets.
Deputies were contacted by the store who advised an employee, later identified as Renteria, had been investigated for theft, and was willing to talk to loss prevention and law enforcement.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the loss prevention district manager who stated she had been working an internal investigation against Renteria after employees reported the fraudulent activity and missing cash.
After one employee reported the activity to Home Depot management, four more victims came forward with similar circumstances.
The manager stated she had already confronted Renteria about the incidents, and Renteria had admitted to stealing from her co-worker’s personal property within the locker room area.
She said Renteria told her she would steal loose cash from open purses, and take picture of credit and debit cards to purchase items online such as Amazon, Ulta Beauty, and Target.
She said the theft started immediately after Renteria was hired in early September 2024. The last reported theft was on March 3, 2025.
Three of the victims spoke with deputies.
The first victim said the total amount of fraudulent charges on her debit account was between $800 and $900. She said she had been able to get all of her money back by disputing the fraudulent charges through her bank, and all purchases occurred November 25, 2024 and January 1, 2025. She said in total, six of her debit cards were used fraudulently and one credit card was compromised.
She said she had also noticed $10 missing from her purse on February 3, 2025, and that she did not use a lock on her locker.
The second victim said she had a total of $1,136.50 in fraudulent debit card transactions on her account, and that $500 in cash had gone missing. She said two of her debit cards and one credit card had been compromised. She said she had to cancel and receive three separate debit cards from her bank during this time period.
She said she knew of two instances where someone stole cash from her purse at work. On January 5, 2025, $150 went missing from her purse, and on February 1, 2025 another $210 went missing. She said after putting a lock on her locker on February 17, 2025, nothing went missing and she had no more fraudulent charges on her debit account.
The third victim said approximately $700 of fraudulent charges had occurred on her debit account, and that she’d had $100 taken from her in cash. She said between September 2024 and January 2025, she noticed numerous charges of fraudulent activity on her account, and despite none of her cards being taken, all of the activity was related to online purchases.
She said she canceled her card and got a new debit card several times, but kept seeing fraudulent activity on the account. She said she switched banks completely from Wells Fargo to Chase Bank.
Finally, deputies spoke with Renteria, and thanked her for being transparent and honest. She agreed to speak with deputies.
Deputies asked if she’d ever stolen from other employees while working at Home Depot, and Renteria said yes, and named five employees.
Deputies asked if she’d stolen from them for any particular reason, and she said “no, their things were just open,” according to the report.
She said she would open lockers that were unsecured, go through purses and wallets, and take loose cash whenever she found it. She said she would take pictures of the credit and debit cards so that she could use the information to make online purchases later.
She told deputies she had also physically stolen around four debit cards all at separate times, which she later threw away in the women’s restroom at work.
Renteria said she had also deleted all of the pictures of the debit and credit card information, and allowed deputies to search her phone to confirm. Deputies searched her photo albums with keywords such as credit card, debit card, Wells Fargo, Chase bank, and were unable to locate any photos related to the victims cards, according to deputies.
Deputies asked what things she would purchase, and Renteria told deputies she once bought headphones from Walmart food with loose cash, and she’d purchase things online she couldn’t afford otherwise, like expensive makeup or jewelry.
Deputies asked Renteria what gave her the idea to steal by taking only the credit card information, and Renteria said her cousin told her she would never get in trouble if she stole this way, as she “does it all the time with her co-workers at Walmart,” according to the report.
Renteria said the last time she had stolen anything was around two weeks ago, and said she had started to feel guilty, so she stopped.
Renteria was taken into custody for three charges of unlawfully using a credit or debit card, and three counts of petit larceny.
She is being held on an $18,411 bail.
