ST. CLOUD NEWS: Pick up home maintenance tips ahead of hurricane season

The City of St. Cloud presents Habitat U Home Maintenance 101 on Thursday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at St. Cloud City Hall. Join Habitat Orlando and Osceola County at this informative class. Learn about HVAC Systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems and appliance maintenance. The Osceola County Property Appraiser will share information on homestead and other property-based tax exemptions that can save homeowners money. Attend this class for the chance to win a disaster prep backpack that includes a solar radio, flashlight, mini-first-aid kit, power bank charger and more to help you prepare for hurricane season.

 

The next Thrive Thursday will be Thursday, May 29 at 7 p.m. at Hopkins Park (620 E. 17th St.). This month’s theme will be Mental Health Awareness Month with Harlowe Counseling. This session will focus on nurturing your wellbeing from the inside out.

 

The 1st Annual AMVETS Redneck Games Fundraiser takes place on Saturday, June 7 at 10 a.m. at Post 33 (4310 Deer Run Road). Comb your mullet and dress the part!

Admission is $10. There will be a costume contest, cornhole tournament, Butter’s Banana Challenge, ring toss, hot dog eating contest, Ping Pong Twerk, balloon pop, TP Challenge, spam carving, seed spitting, Plinko and a dunk tank.

 

Registration is open for the St. Cloud Summer Youth Camp. Youth Camp runs from Monday, June 2 to Friday, August 8 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the St. Cloud Civic Center. The fee is $100 a week for city residents and $110 for non-residents. The Camp is for ages 5-12. To register, go to https://www.webtrac.stcloudfl.gov.

 

Join St. Cloud Main Street for Storybook Adventures every Saturday in June. Each week, kickoff the tour at St. Cloud Main Street (903 Pennsylvania Ave.) and pick up a special map that leads you on a stroll through downtown St. Cloud. The map will guide you to different store fronts of participating businesses, each stop revealing a page of a story. The grand finale, every Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. where you will have the chance to meet authors and separate locations. Chat with the authors, grab an autographed book and snap some fun photos. The first 20 families that show-up will get a free signed book. Children can dress in costumes, inspired by the story and go to the St. Cloud Twin Theater at 10:30 a.m. Attend all eight events be entered to win tickets to Wild Florida.
