Apple season is in full gear and businesses in El Dorado County are ready to say goodbye to summer as they welcome Labor Day weekend crowds at Apple Hill.
“It’s a launch. We’re all opening up and it’s an exciting time. We’re excited because the apples are coming ripe into the right time,” said Chris Delfino from Delfino Farms.
Delfino Farms grows a number of apple and wine grape varietals for their different products.
Delfino said that on weekends during this season at Apple Hill, they have thousands of visitors at their property to taste one of their pies and drink some of their wine.
That excitement extends to seasonal businesses like Abel’s Apple Acres, which just days away from the large crowds, had quite a scare this week after their oven broke down.
“We were really worried about it,” said Evelyn Abel, owner of the establishment.
Fortunately, they were able to get it fixed on Thursday, just in time for opening weekend.
The business offers a wide range of products from caramel apples, to donuts, cakes, and even outdoor activities like a maze.
Abel’s Apple Acres is open from Labor Day weekend through mid-December, but in between those visits, Abel said many of those visiting over the next month will try to avoid the bigger crowds in the fall.
“There’s the frozen pies that people are getting them thinking about Thanksgiving because they might not come back,” Abel said.
