White House economist tours Louisville airport amid renovations

White House Economist Heather Boushey saw firsthand the innovative changes to Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport during a visit on Monday.“I know for many cities, the airport is the first gateway and the first impression,” said Dan Mann, executive director for Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.Boushey also learned how it’s using the $13 million awarded from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act.“It was really exciting to hear about new things being put in place here at the airport that will save so much money by investing in geothermal and investing in the microgrid here,” she said.In addition to new technology and clean-energy features, the long list of the billion-dollar upgrades at the airport continue. Federal dollars are helping SDF accommodate record growth including expansions of TSA security checkpoints and improvements to runways and taxiways which will increase efficiencies with UPS, the airport’s economic driver.“Making those foundational investments that cut the time of how long it takes a UPS plane to go from A to B at the airport, that’s helping America’s supply chains work, and it’s keeping prices down for us all,” Boushey said.Excitement for the airport’s transformation also extends to the surrounding communities.Government officials say they’ll benefit from new jobs the investments will create and the cleaner, greener environments it hopes to foster.“I’m excited to see that the kind of economy we’re seeing around the nation is vital here in Louisville and how that economic vitality is really laying the foundation for stronger growth in the weeks and months and years to come,” Boushey said.
